The NUS industrial design exhibition 2007 inaugurated yesterday evening in Vivocity, 24th May. Held in conjunction with the NUS Architecture design exhibition, this year’s event has certainly attracted many design professionals and public to attend the event. As mentioned by Professor Heng Chye Kiang, Head of NUS Department of Architecture, this batch of industrial design students have won an unprecedented amount of achievements (Lite-on Awards, Electrolux Design, Milan Salone Satellite exhibition and Red Dot Awards), putting Singapore’s design on the global map of creativity.
Other than the winning award works that have already been published, we have also discovered other student design works that show innovative design and great marketing concept values. Sara’s cooker-warmer and wearable audio remote design, Donn’s Bento cooker design, Ee Sock’s Dimple MP3 and Pulse Swarvoski clock, Terence’s Glide aquatic equipment, are designs that show strong conceptual thinking and intuitive design. Over the next few days, personal interviews with these designers will be featured on IDasia.org. So look out for them!

During the 7 days of the exhibition, as the Head of publicity, I got great responses from the public. A number of companies are interested in realizing our ideas, and some are interested in collaborating with the students on new projects. There were instances where the public wanted to buy some of the FYP models instantly! Thinking that they were real products. This shows that the time & effort that my classmates had put in for their models are worth it.
