From Press Release:

The Industrial Design Programme of the National University of Singapore celebrates eight years of progress since its founding in 1999. The 5th graduating cohort in 2007 shows bright hope for the future, bringing the University’s tally of international design awards and honours to unprecedented heights.

Despite being a relatively new programme, our Industrial Design faculty’s achievement over the recent years have been stunning – having won numerous prestigious international awards such as the Osaka Design Prize, IF Concept Awards, Red Dot Concept Awards, Electrolux Design Lab Awards, Intermot Design Preis, IDEA Award and Bombay Sapphire Asia Award to name a few. Our pedagogy of combining a strong research base with conceptual thinking has proven to be a winning formula and has propelled students to excel on the international platform.

We are pleased to present our student’s final year projects at the National University of Singapore’s Industrial Design graduation show, “Not By Default, But By Design” from 24 to 28 May 2007 at the VivoCity East Boulevard.

“Not By Default, But By Design”
To design is to plan, to intend, to conceive. Each component, material and technology, each proportion, curve and detail, is deliberately chosen to craft the way an object relates to us and our world – its functional purposes, its emotional message, its social value, and market viability – To this end there is no simple acceptance of the default but rather, a constant investigation of ‘why’, and ‘why not’.
